A delicious treat, perfect for a weekend breakfast.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups milk
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla essence
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp custard powder
- 8 slices white bread
- Butter to cook
- Maple syrup, berries and/or powdered sugar
Directions:
- In a large bowl, combine the milk, egg, vanilla essence, sugar and custard powder. Once whisked together, the batter is ready.
- In a large frying pan over medium heat, melt 1 to 2 teaspoons butter (I personally prefer using salted butter for extra flavor).
- Dip the bread into the bowl and place into the frying pan. Note: do not keep the bread in the batter or it will fall apart. Cook each side for about a minute or less to lightly brown.
- Repeat steps 2 and 3 until all the batter is used up.
- Serve warm with maple syrup, berries and/or sprinkle lightly with powdered sugar.
