A delicious treat, perfect for a weekend breakfast.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp custard powder
  • 8 slices white bread
  • Butter to cook
  • Maple syrup, berries and/or powdered sugar

 

Directions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine the milk, egg, vanilla essence, sugar and custard powder. Once whisked together, the batter is ready.

 

  1. In a large frying pan over medium heat, melt 1 to 2 teaspoons butter (I personally prefer using salted butter for extra flavor).

 

  1. Dip the bread into the bowl and place into the frying pan. Note:  do not keep the bread in the batter or it will fall apart.  Cook each side for about a minute or less to lightly brown.

 

  1. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until all the batter is used up.

 

  1. Serve warm with maple syrup, berries and/or sprinkle lightly with powdered sugar.
