Ingredients:

  • 9 lasagne noodles
  • 500 grams lean ground beef
  • ½ cup diced onion
  • 2 tbsp garlic purée
  • 2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 container cottage cheese
  • 1 ½ jars tomato sauce
  • 450 grams shredded mozzarella cheese

Directions:

1.  Preheat oven to 375°F.

2. Cook the lasagne noodles according to the package’s directions.

3.  Meanwhile, in a medium saucepan over medium heat, cook the lean ground beef with the garlic purée, stirring to break up the beef.

4.  Once the beef has browned, add the Italian seasoning, black pepper and diced onion and continue to stir until the liquid has dried up.

5.  Add one jar of tomato sauce to the beef and stir to combine.  Remove from heat once the meat sauce starts to bubble.

6.  Add ⅓ cup tomato sauce to line the bottom of a rectangular 9″ x 13″ glass or heatproof dish.

7.  Add three lasagne noodles on top of the sauce to line the bottom of the dish.

8.  Add the meat sauce over the lasagne noodles and spread it out evenly.

9.  Divide the shredded mozzarella cheese into three portions.  Use one portion of the shredded cheese to sprinkle over the meat sauce evenly.

10.  Add three more lasagne noodles to cover the meat sauce.

11.  Add the cottage cheese and spread evenly to cover the noodles.

12.  Take the second portion of shredded cheese and sprinkle over the cottage cheese.

13.  Add another three lasagne noodles to cover the cheese.

14.  Spoon a thin layer of tomato sauce over the lasagne noodles and cover with shredded cheese.

15.  Bake in the oven for 30 minutes.  The sauce should be bubbling and the cheese on top should have melted.

16.  Remove the lasagne from the oven and let stand for 15 to 20 minutes before serving.
