There are many variations of making shish kebab throughout the world.  This recipe is the one I use that my family thoroughly enjoys.  It’s quick, easy and delicious, although admittedly my mother does not approve of my recipe as it differs from her traditional Indian shish kebab that will appear in our upcoming cookbook!

Prep Time: 10 minutes  BBQ Time: 10 minutes

Yield:  8 to 10 kebabs, serves 3 to 4 people

Ingredients:

  • 500 g lean ground beef
  • 1 tbsp freshly crushed garlic
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • ¼ cup breadcrumbs
  • ¼ cup freshly chopped cilantro
  • Red chili powder or chopped green chilies to taste (optional)

Directions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine all ingredients by hand.

  1. Take a small handful of meat and form around the back of a plastic cooking spoon and once an evenly shaped kebab has formed, slide off and place on a tray.

  1. After all the kebabs are ready, cook on the barbeque. Once cooked on the bottom side, turn over to cook the opposite side.  Note:  Do not move the kebabs around on the barbeque or they will fall apart and do not overcook or they will dry out.
