This is my mother’s apple crumble recipe. It’s so unbelievably delicious and best served warm, straight out of the oven, with vanilla ice cream. Enjoy!!!!
Ingredients:
Crust:
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- ¼ cup butter, melted
- ¼ cup sugar
Filling:
- 6 red apples, peeled and cut into bite size pieces
- ¼ cup butter
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- ¼ tsp ground cinnamon
Crumble:
- 1 cup flour
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 cups rolled oats
- ¾ cup cold butter, cut into ½ inch cubes
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- To create the crust, in a mixing bowl, combine all ingredients to create a dough.
- Grease a heat proof dish or a baking pan, preferably one with a removable bottom and press the dough evenly on the bottom.
- Bake the crust for 15 minutes. Once baked, remove the dish/pan from the oven and set aside.
- To create the filling, in a medium saucepan, melt the butter.
- Add all remaining filling ingredients to the saucepan and stir to combine.
- Continue to cook the filling ingredients until the apples have softened slightly, about 10 minutes depending on the size of the pieces.
- Pour the filling ingredients over the crust.
- To create the crumble, in a mixing bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar and rolled oats.
- Add the butter, rubbing it in with finger tips until the crumble comes together into moist clumps.
- Place the clumps on top of the filling and ensure to space it out so that the crumble will cover the apples or almost cover the apples.
- Bake at 375°F for about 40 minutes or until the crumble has become crisp and golden brown. Note: Watch the crumble closely after 30 minutes in the oven to ensure it doesn’t burn.
- Serve warm.
