These crispy chicken wings are easily made in the oven with very little mess.  Whether you are looking for a light meal or an appetizer, this wing recipe is definitely a crowd pleaser.  While this is my base recipe, I often serve the wings with sweet chili sauce, plum sauce or a tangy hot sauce and a side of veggie sticks, of course.

Ingredients:

  • ⅔ cups flour
  • 2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp garlic powder
  • 2 tbsp paprika
  • 3 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp red chili powder (optional)
  • ¼ cup butter
  • Canola oil spray
  • 24 wings (split)

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 450°

  1. Line a large baking sheet with foil. Spray with canola oil.  Add the butter and place in the oven to melt.  Remove the baking sheet once the butter has melted.  Note:  The butter can be omitted but the flavour and texture of the wings will not be the same.

  1. In a large Ziplock bag, combine the flour, black pepper, garlic powder, paprika and salt. Seal and shake together.  Note:  Add the red chili powder if desired.

  1. Open the large Ziplock bag and add 12 wings, seal and shake together to properly coat the wings.

  1. Line the baking sheet with the wings.

  1. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for the remainder of the wings.

  1. Bake for 30 minutes.

  1. Remove the baking sheet from the oven, flip the wings and return to the oven to bake for an additional 15 to 20 minutes.
