Weekday mornings are a mad rush of trying to ensure that the kids have eaten something relatively healthy while ensuring that everyone is properly dressed, backpacks are loaded and that we make it on time for school drop off. It’s not until I sit in my chair at the office that I am able to take a minute to finally breathe after the chaos that ensues every morning! When people without children complain to me about having a hectic morning, I stare at them and bite my tongue fearing what swear words may fall out of my mouth!!!
Weekend breakfasts however are a completely different experience. I think a part of me tries to make up for my “morning mommy mode” that occurs during the weekdays which usually starts with pleasant but rushed and then transitions to irritable and then to frustrated and sometimes when boundaries are really pushed, to outright raging angry.
On the weekends, sometimes my husband will make breakfast – either muffins or pancakes where he tries to throw in chia seeds or something else that he thinks will make whatever he is preparing “healthier” and I’ll pick up coffee or I will be the one to make a delicious spread that is not so healthy and he’ll pick up our coffee.
Weekend breakfast is a great opportunity to relax, recharge and spend some quality time with family.
